2008 Results

2008’s Team Bike Challenge grand prize winning team was Team Randol of Santa Clara County – a team composed entirely of “Novice” riders. In addition to the bike rack, each team member also won a Timbuk2 messenger bag filled with bike related goodies.

412 teams participated in this year’s Team Bike Challenge, the largest turnout to date, logging an incredible 225,349 miles traveled by bicycle.

2008 marks the third year of the Team Bike Challenge, a month long bicycle competition taking place during the month of May. Teams are composed of up to five individuals, who in turn track how many trips they take by bike instead of by car; teams score points for each day any team member rides. The teams competed for a grand prize – a bike rack from Peak Racks to be installed in a public space of their choosing, within their county.

The Team Bike Challenge was designed with two main goals: to encourage new cyclists to ride a bicycle for transportation and to encourage more utilitarian bicycling in the San Francisco Bay Area. In this regard, the 2008 Team Bike Challenge was a huge success, motivating both novices and experienced cyclists to ride their bicycles more often and establish new transportation routines.
